Before there was a guardian, there was a glow.
The Mycelium is a living world. Mnodes grow from its soil, and glowing threads connect them above and below the ground. Light flows through those threads, giving energy to the Mnodes and the life around them. The world shines from within.
In time, the Mnodes learned that joining their different gifts could create new kinds of life. When one Mnode weakened, the others reached out to it through the threads, and from that meeting a new evolved Mnode grew in its place. Later, the same connected light gave rise to the Mkin. The originals remain part of the world they helped nurture.
When an original Mnode's life truly ends, its last spark can remain as a lightseed, holding a remembrance of its gifts. Mkin gather these precious sparks in a sanctuary, the heart of the Mycelium. Together they help wounded life recover. The living sustain the world; the remembered help it heal.
01OG Mnodes / Original lives
The originals still shine.
The first Mnodes grew where the living threads met. Each had its own cap, colours, branching shape and gifts to offer the life around it. These are the OG Mnodes, the originals. Their light helps sustain the Mycelium.
Though they grow in different places, they are connected by the same threads. Those connections carry light and energy through the soil, from one Mnode to another.
Every OG Mnode that remains in its original form is alive and carries its own strong light. That includes those that have already shared light and traits to inspire an evolved Mnode. Sharing does not consume them. Their own light remains.
Some individual OGs weaken with time, but the originals are not a dying generation. When one nears the end of its life, the others connect to it through the threads, and a new evolved Mnode grows in its place. The weakening Mnode's light and lineage continue inside that new life, and its last spark is kept safe as a lightseed. The other OGs keep shining beside it.

02Evolved & Rooted Mnodes / Combined gifts
Together, life becomes something new.
When an OG Mnode weakened and neared the end of its life, the other OGs reached out to it through the threads. Inside that fading Mnode, their gifts gathered with its own. From that meeting grew an evolved Mnode: not the light of one original, but a combination of several, with a crown, colours and branching shape that carried their shared inheritance.
The new life grew in the weakening Mnode's place. Its life as it was ended there, yet nothing was lost. Its light and lineage continued inside the evolved Mnode, and at the final moment its last spark slipped free and became a lightseed for the Mkin to carry home. The connected OGs stayed alive and kept shining; sharing traits never consumed them. Every original remains part of the world it helped create.
Its particular combination of traits gave the evolved Mnode an identity and abilities of its own. One might spread roots that hold loose soil steady. Another might form sheltered spaces for small creatures. These inherited gifts let the world develop in ways a single original could not achieve alone.
Rooted evolved Mnodes preserve their origins while bringing new gifts to the Mycelium. In the Grove, a holder grows this evolution and roots it into one of their own OG tokens. That token keeps its number and its whole history on-chain, so nothing is lost; its former artwork rests in the Fossil Layer as a record of its original life. Rooting anchors this renewed life into the soil, where its combined light and traits also make Mkin life possible.

Bring Back the Light to the Mycelium
A flood has injured a clearing and carried an ancient lightseed out of the sanctuary. Play a Mkin guardian: protect its last spark with a spore-keeper's help and carry it home. An evolved Mnode shelters the sanctuary, where the seeds' shared healing can reach the wounded clearing through its roots.

03Mkin / Guardians of the Mycelium
Guardians who can go where help is needed.
OG Mnodes and rooted evolved Mnodes nourish the network, but they stay rooted in one place. They cannot walk to a damaged patch of soil or reach a creature that needs help. Their shared light made another kind of life possible: the Mkin, guardians who can move through the Mycelium.
An Mkin grows when one fading OG Mnode and two or more rooted evolved Mnodes connect. As the old OG spreads its last light, the evolved Mnodes reach it through the threads and join with it. From that connection, the Mkin is born. The evolved Mnodes give their combined light and inherited traits, and they stay rooted, living on in the network.
The Mkin takes the place of the fading OG, the same way an evolved Mnode once grew in the place of an OG. The old Mnode's last spark stays behind as a lightseed, and the Mkin carries it home to the sanctuary. The lightseed is not the guardian itself or another token.
Mkin inherit light and traits from those connections and belong to the same world. They care for the whole Mycelium: its light, OG Mnodes, rooted evolved Mnodes, soil, plants and other creatures. They notice when something is wrong, investigate and help. They also find lost lightseeds and protect the sanctuary. Injured or exhausted guardians can return there to recover. Healing helps them, but does not replace the patient work of caring for the world.

Future phase: up to 444 Mkin can grow. The chosen OG keeps its token number and history and shows the Mkin, just like rooting. No NFT is burned. Growing Mkin is not available yet.

04 / Lightseeds and remembrance
The heart that helps the world heal.
A lightseed is the last surviving spark of an original Mnode whose life has ended, like the weakening Mnode in whose place an evolved Mnode grew. It keeps a trace of that Mnode's traits and ancient gifts. It is not a baby Mnode or a connector between roots. Sharing traits to inspire an evolution does not make a living original die or leave a lightseed behind; only a life that truly ends leaves a spark.
Mkin collect these sparks and guard them together in the sanctuary, the heart of the Mycelium. Protected in moss-lined cradles beneath sheltering roots, their different gifts form a shared source of healing. The seeds remain here; their healing reaches the world through the roots.
Wounded Mkin come here to recover. Damaged roots and soil can heal, and new plants can take hold again. The seeds are not consumed and cannot bring back the dead. Healing takes time. Guardians must still clear dangers, protect the soil and care for recovering life.
Living Mnodes supply everyday light. Evolved Mnodes bring new inherited gifts. The sanctuary helps that living world recover when it is hurt. If all its last sparks were destroyed, life would not go dark at once, but wounds would stop healing. Damage could build until the Mycelium could no longer survive.
Finding a lost spark is only the beginning. Mkin bring it safely home, guard the sanctuary and tend the places its healing helps restore. A creature seeking the heart could be a visitor in need, or a danger the guardians must understand.

Lightseeds, the sanctuary and healing powers belong to the stories, not tokens, rewards or website actions. This is the lore of our world. Evolving and rooting are available in the Grove, with a maximum of 888 rooted evolved Mnodes and at least 333 OGs preserved completely untouched. Breeding up to 444 Mkin is a future phase, not an available action. The Mkin shown here are genuine artwork from the approved 2,222-piece art collection, not already-bred tokens or a final reveal of the 444.
